The Tigh Na Cloich Hotel occupies the site of a large rock which was removed by blasting when the original house was built in 1879. the rock was known as the Sentinel Stone and gave its name to Pitlochry. The name Pitlochry is a corruption of the Gaelic "Pit-Cloich- Aire" meaning the place by the Sentinel Stone and is believed to be associated with the Picts of 2000 years ago. The Hotel sits on the site of a former historic look out point of a Roman encampment on the banks of the river Tay .

Pitlochry often known as Scotland 's 'Jewel in the Crown', is also the gateway to the Highlands and Perthshire's big tree country, and is surrounded by some of Scotland 's very best scenery and famous attractions.

Within Pitlochry is the famous Festival Theatre, Hydro electric Dam, Visitor centre & Salmon Ladder, Edradour (Scotland 's smallest distillery) and Bells Blair Atholl Distilleries. Queens View and Blair Castle are a short drive from Pitlochry and offer splendid sight seeing. Further a field Balmoral Castle , Scone Palace , Glamis Castle and Loch Ness are all within a days drive from the hotel, with enough time to return for dinner.Pitlochry and surrounding Perthshire also offer a great range of activities such as Loch and River Fishing on the Tummel or Tay ,white water rafting, Shooting & stalking on the local Atholl estates, Golfing breaks and superb, walking, cycling and biking whilst enjoying the outstanding Scottish countryside. The Tigh Na Cloich Hotel in Pitlochry is easy to get to, by road and rail:-

 

By Road
The main artery through highland Perthshire is the Perth to Inverness A9 trunk road. Travelling to Pitlochry from the south, come off the A9 at the Pitlochry exit and drive into the town. The road you will be on is Atholl Road - Pitlochry main thoroughfare - and we are situated at it's far, western end. Continue right through the town to the junction Larchwood road. Take this right turn onto Larchwood Road, and the entrance to the hotel is on the right after about two hundred yards.

By Rail

Pitlochry railway station is on the main east coast Edinburgh / London to Inverness line and there is a regular service. There is a taxi office at the end of the platform but the hotel is five minutes from the station.

By bus

Due to its central location on the main A9, Pitlochry is well served by most of the major bus companies. For both north bound and south bound buses, the main dropping off points are in the centre of Pitlochry.

For anyone who is travelling to the hotel by train or by bus, we have in place a complimentary taxi collection service for both their day of arrival and departure. Please just let us know in advance of the time of your arrival / departure, and we will arrange to have you collected / dropped off free of charge.
